A cheap gym membership in Singapore is only cheap if you show up. The lowest sticker price is ActiveSG. Everything else is a trade: more equipment and hours in exchange for a higher monthly bill and, often, a contract.
If you want dated operator numbers, use the Singapore gym membership price index 2026. If you are choosing between public and commercial floors, read ActiveSG vs commercial gyms. This page is the budget shortlist and the per-visit maths.
| Option | Best for | Indicative cost (SGD) | Catch |
|---|---|---|---|
| ActiveSG pay-per-entry | Testing the habit or training under ~12 times/month | S$2.50/entry (adult citizen/PR) | Crowding and basic equipment at peak hours |
| ActiveSG MyActiveGYM monthly | Regular public-gym users near a sports centre | S$15 off-peak or S$30 peak/month | Still a public floor; peak evenings pack out |
| Budget 24/7 chains | Frequent lifters who need better hours and kit | Often ~S$98 to S$178/month depending on plan | Contracts, joining fees, outlet variance |
| Franchise 24/7 networks (e.g. Anytime) | People who need many outlets or late access | Outlet-dependent; often high-nineties to mid-100s | No single national rate; long lock-ins common |
| Private pods / pay-as-you-go | People who hate crowds and contracts | Session or hourly pricing (confirm locally) | Can cost more than a monthly if you go often |
| Class packs (not a gym floor) | People who want coaching more than open gym | Pack-dependent | Not a substitute for heavy free weights |

Start with ActiveSG unless you already know you need more
Sport Singapore publishes adult citizen/PR ActiveGYM entry at S$2.50, with MyActiveGYM monthly options at S$30 peak and S$15 off-peak. Off-peak is Monday to Friday from opening until 4pm, excluding public holidays. That is the real cheap floor in Singapore.
Broader ActiveSG facility access for citizens and PRs can also include low-friction pathways beyond the gym floor. Check the current ActiveSG Circle terms for which swimming complexes and sports halls your membership includes.
Use ActiveSG if:
- You are still proving the habit
- You live or work near a sports centre
- Your programme is general strength and cardio, not specialised powerlifting
Skip ActiveSG as your only plan if evening crowding makes every session a negotiation for a bench.
Per-visit maths (the only maths that matters)
Ignore the brochure monthly. Divide price by visits you actually made last month.
| Pattern | ActiveSG pay-per-entry | ActiveSG peak monthly (S$30) | Budget chain at S$98 |
|---|---|---|---|
| 4 visits/month | S$10 total (S$2.50 each) | S$7.50/visit | S$24.50/visit |
| 8 visits/month | S$20 total | S$3.75/visit | S$12.25/visit |
| 12 visits/month | S$30 total | S$2.50/visit | S$8.17/visit |
| 16 visits/month | S$40 total | S$1.88/visit | S$6.13/visit |
Under about twelve visits, ActiveSG pay-per-entry or the cheap monthly usually wins on pure cost. Past that, a budget chain can still be the better buy if the public floor is so packed that you skip sessions. Skipped sessions are the expensive product.
When a "cheap" commercial membership is the smarter spend
Budget chains advertise mid-two-digit to low-three-digit monthly rates. Our price index has recently shown 24/7 Fitness around S$98 a month on a longer commitment, with higher rolling rates, and Anytime Fitness in a wide outlet-dependent band because the brand does not publish one national rate. Those numbers move. Confirm current price on the operator or club page before you treat any figure as locked.
A commercial floor is the better cheap option when:
- You train three or more times a week
- You need early or late access
- You care about free-weight density and machine choice
- Travel time to the outlet is short enough that you will go on tired weekdays
It stops being cheap when:
- You signed 12 to 18 months and attend eight times a month
- Joining fees and "promo" lock-ins erase the headline rate
- The outlet is far enough that travel kills half your planned sessions
SAFRA EnergyOne can look cheap on paper for eligible members, but the lowest rates are status-gated. Read the SAFRA membership terms and the price-index notes before assuming the Platinum or post-ORD figure applies to you.
Pay-as-you-go and pods
Private gym pods and hourly gyms sell privacy and flexibility. They can beat a membership if you train twice a week. They lose badly if you train five times a week and pay per session every time. Do the maths with the calculator above before the convenience tax wins.
Class marketplaces are a different product. Buy them for coaching and variety, not as a substitute for a strength floor with barbells and enough plates.
The contract trap
Cheap commercial rates usually buy duration. Read:
- Lock-in length
- Freezing rules
- Exit fees
- Whether the promo rate steps up after month three
- Whether "all clubs" access is included or sold as an upgrade
If the salesperson will not put the step-up price in writing, walk. Our membership worth-it guide covers the attendance maths people get wrong: people systematically overestimate future visits.
Neighbourhood beats brand
A S$98 gym you will not travel to is more expensive than a S$30 ActiveSG you walk to after work. Shortlist by travel time first, brand second. Use /find/gym-singapore before you sit through a tour, then confirm live prices on the price index and the operator page.
A budget decision path
- Try ActiveSG pay-per-entry for two weeks and log real visits.
- If you are already over ~12 visits a month and hate the floor, shortlist one nearby budget chain.
- Compare cost per visit, not brochure monthly.
- Read the contract step-up and freeze rules in writing.
- Only then look at boutique class packs, and only if coaching is the product you want.
FAQ
What is the cheapest gym membership in Singapore?
For most adult citizens and PRs, ActiveSG pay-per-entry or MyActiveGYM monthly. Confirm live rates on the Sport Singapore ActiveSG Circle pages.
Is Anytime Fitness cheap?
Sometimes, at promo rates on long contracts. It is rarely the cheapest once you include outlet variance and commitment length. Check the specific club.
Is 24/7 Fitness cheaper than ActiveSG?
Not on sticker price. It can be better value if you train often and need a denser commercial floor. Run the per-visit table with your real attendance.
Should I buy ClassPass instead of a gym?
Only if classes are your training. It is a class marketplace, not a replacement for a serious strength floor.
