Wearable subscription costs in Singapore 2026: the three-year bill

WHOOP, Oura, Apple Watch and Garmin look similar in a shop photo. Over three years they do not. Here is an approximate total-cost table using public price signals, plus what Singapore buyers should verify before paying.

The sticker price on a wearable is no longer the price. Over three years, a membership-first band can cost more than a watch you buy once, while a "premium" ring quietly adds hundreds in app fees after the unboxing glow fades. If you compare hardware only, WHOOP can look strangely cheap and Garmin can look expensive. Flip the horizon to three years and the ranking often reverses.

This page is the practical calculator layer beside our earlier explainer on the hidden cost of health tracker subscriptions. For product context, see the Oura Ring 5 review, WHOOP 5 review and the /topics/wearables hub.

All figures below are approximate, built from publicly reported US list prices and Singapore retail signals. Exchange rates, GST, bundles, promos and tier choices move the real bill. Verify current pricing before you buy.

How to read the table without fooling yourself

Three rules keep this honest:

  1. Separate required fees from optional ones. WHOOP membership is the product. Oura membership is required for the full modern app. Apple Fitness+ and Garmin Connect+ are optional extras for many buyers.
  2. Use three years, not launch day. That is long enough for subscriptions to matter and short enough that you are not pretending a watch lasts forever.
  3. Add Singapore friction. Import routes, reseller markups, GST and local retail pricing can widen the gap between a US landing page and what you actually pay here.

A worked example using the public US signals above: WHOOP One at US$199 a year is about US$597 over three years with hardware included. Oura membership at US$69.99 a year is about US$210, but you still paid for the ring. An Apple Watch SE 3 bought once from Apple Singapore at the published from-price around S$349 has no mandatory health subscription for core features. A Garmin kept on free Connect can also be a pure hardware purchase.

That is why "cheap wearable" marketing is often incomplete. The sensor is the bait. The billing plan is the product.

WHOOP: rent the coaching loop

WHOOP's public US tiers start at US$199 a year for One, with Peak and Life higher. Hardware comes with the membership model rather than as a normal standalone purchase.

Approximate 3-year membership math:

  • One at US$199/yr ≈ US$597
  • Peak at US$239/yr ≈ US$717
  • Life at US$359/yr ≈ US$1,077

Those are planning figures, not invoices. Singapore buyers still need to confirm the live tier, whether a local reseller is marking it up, and what GST applies on the way in. Our Singapore WHOOP guide covers that buying friction.

WHOOP is worth modelling only if the coaching changes behaviour. If it will not, the three-year number is mostly waste.

Oura: own the ring, budget the membership

Oura sells the ring, then charges for the fuller app on Gen3 and newer. Official US membership pricing is US$5.99 a month or US$69.99 a year, with regional pricing elsewhere. Ring 5 US hardware signals sit roughly in the US$399 to US$499 range by finish; Singapore retail reports have been higher in SGD. Confirm current price locally rather than converting the US page in your head and calling it done.

Approximate stack:

  • Hardware: confirm current SGD retail
  • Membership: about US$70 a year, or about US$210 over three years on the annual plan
  • Cancellation: you keep the ring and a limited free app layer, not the full experience

Oura can still beat WHOOP on cost for sleep-focused users. It does not beat a no-subscription watch automatically. Add the ring and the membership before you celebrate.

Apple Watch: one-time buy, optional extras

Apple Singapore currently lists Apple Watch SE 3 from S$349 and Series 11 from S$599. Ultra and Hermès lines sit much higher. Core health and fitness features do not require a WHOOP-style membership.

Apple Fitness+ is optional. If you do not want the workout catalogue, leave it off the three-year bill. Cellular models, extra bands and AppleCare are the usual quiet add-ons that inflate a "simple" watch purchase.

For iPhone users who want one daily device, this ownership model is often the cleanest total-cost story in the category.

Garmin: ownership with an optional upsell

Garmin's important commercial detail is the free baseline. Garmin announced Connect+ as an optional premium tier at US$6.99 a month or US$69.99 a year, while saying existing Connect features and data remain available without it.

That makes Garmin easier to model:

  • Buy the watch, skip Connect+: three-year software add-on ≈ US$0
  • Buy the watch, take Connect+ every year: add about US$210 over three years

Pick the watch for GPS, battery and training features first. Treat Connect+ as a later yes/no, not as the entry ticket.

A Singapore buying checklist

  • Start from the job: sleep ring, recovery coach, run watch or phone companion.
  • Write the three-year number before you fall for a launch discount.
  • Check whether cancelling guts the product or only removes nice-to-have coaching.
  • For imports, add shipping, GST and possible reseller markup before comparing against Apple SG or Garmin SG checkout prices.
  • Do not convert wellness scores into medical decisions. These are consumer tools. See a clinician if a reading worries you.

FAQ

What is the cheapest wearable over three years?

Often a capable one-time watch or tracker with no required subscription, provided it covers your use case. A discounted membership device can still lose on total cost.

Is Oura cheaper than WHOOP?

Frequently on membership alone, yes, because Oura's annual fee is much lower than WHOOP's. You still have to buy the ring, and local SGD pricing matters.

Does Apple Watch need a subscription?

Not for core health and activity features. Fitness+ is optional.

Is Garmin Connect+ required?

No. Garmin presents it as an optional premium layer on top of free Connect features.

Should Singapore buyers trust US prices?

Use them as planning signals only. Confirm current local or landed pricing, tax and shipping before purchase.
