Garmin Forerunner 570 review: the 265 successor adds voice, Gen5 HR and brighter AMOLED

Garmin's mid-tier running watch finally gets a speaker and mic. Multiband GPS and Training Readiness remain excellent. Maps still live on pricier models. Scored for Singapore buyers; see How We Test for our protocol.

Garmin Forerunner 570 GPS running watch

The Forerunner 570 is what the 265 always wanted to become: same AMOLED runner body, but with Gen5 heart rate, a speaker for calls, and Garmin's Evening Report digest. It is the default mid-tier pick for serious runners who do not need Fenix maps, if you can stomach the price jump over sale-priced 265 stock.

What we liked
  • Bright AMOLED with buttons plus touch for sweaty runs
  • Multiband GPS and Gen5 optical HR are class-leading for the tier
  • Speaker and mic add safety calls without reaching for a phone
Worth noting
  • No onboard maps at this price while rivals ship colour maps cheaper
  • AMOLED battery still trails MIP Forerunners for ultra athletes
  • Full MSRP stings when discounted 265 stock remains on shelves
The 570 wins on display and design; the 265 wins on value and battery. GPS accuracy differences were minor over 21.1 km.Tom's Guide half-marathon test

GPS and heart rate in the real world

Multiband GPS on a known loop stayed tight under open sky and acceptable under light tree cover. Optical HR matched a chest strap on steady runs but still lagged a few beats on 400 m reps. For intervals, pair a Polar H10 if zones matter.

Tom's Guide's race test found GPS and HR largely comparable to the 265 over a half marathon. The brighter 1.4-inch display on the 47 mm model is the tangible on-course upgrade.

Voice, Evening Report and the smartwatch creep

Built-in speaker and microphone let you take calls mid-walk without fishing for a phone. Purists call it gimmick; parents on a long run call it useful.

Evening Report, Triathlon Coach and skin temperature expand the training stack beyond what the 265 offered. Training Readiness and HRV status remain actionable if you treat wrist HRV as a trend, not a lab value. Notebookcheck and other studies remind us wrist HRV is noisy compared with morning chest-strap readings.

Battery: AMOLED tax is real

Garmin quotes up to 11 days in smartwatch mode, but always-on AMOLED and multiband GPS workouts drain faster than the old MIP Forerunners. One Tom's Guide test logged roughly 6.86% GPS battery drain per hour.

Ultra athletes and multi-day hikers should look at the 965 or 970. Daily runners who charge on the desk every few days will be fine.

The maps elephant in the room

At roughly USD 549 / SGD 700+, no offline topo maps feels like a miss. Polar, Suunto and Coros ship colour maps for less. Breadcrumb navigation works for known routes; it is not a replacement for turn-by-turn in a new city or trail system.

Discounted Forerunner 965 stock often undercuts the 570 while adding maps and longer GPS battery. The 570 wins on size, colour options and voice features.

Who should buy it

Buy the 570 if you want the newest mid Forerunner screen, Gen5 sensor and mic, and you are not coming from a heavily discounted 265. Wait for a sale if maps matter: the 970 still wins for navigation.

Skip entirely if you own a happy 265 and only run with breadcrumb routes.

Garmin Forerunner 570 or 265?

570 adds Gen5 HR, a speaker, Evening Report and a brighter display. 265 still wins on value and battery if discounted stock remains. GPS differences were minor in independent half-marathon tests.

Does the Forerunner 570 have maps?

No onboard maps at this tier. If turn-by-turn navigation on the wrist is non-negotiable, step up to a mapped Forerunner or Fenix, or run with phone navigation.

How is heart rate on intervals?

Optical HR matched a chest strap on steady runs in our testing but still lagged a few beats on 400 m reps. Pair a chest strap if zone accuracy on intervals drives your training.

How long does the battery last?

Garmin quotes up to 11 days in smartwatch mode, but always-on AMOLED and multiband GPS drain faster. Heavy GPS users should expect more frequent top-ups than MIP Forerunners.

Is the Forerunner 570 worth it at full MSRP?

It is the default mid-tier pick if you want AMOLED and Garmin's training stack without Fenix pricing. If sale-priced 265 stock is available, run the maths on features you will actually use.
