The Alexandra Park Connector runs 1.7km from Tanglin Road to Zion Road, following the Alexandra Canal the whole way. That length is the single most useful thing to know about it: at a walking pace it is about 20 minutes end to end, and a runner covers it in under ten.
So treat it as a link rather than a destination. It is a continuation of Alexandra Canal Linear Park and joins the Henderson Park Connector, which is where a genuine long route starts.
The route, end to end
| Detail | What to expect |
|---|---|
| Length | 1.7km |
| Start | Tanglin Road |
| End | Zion Road |
| Follows | Alexandra Canal |
| Connects to | Alexandra Canal Linear Park, Henderson Park Connector |
| Buses | 51, 122, 139, 186, 970 |
The character is urban rather than green. It runs past condominiums with views of the surrounding high-rise architecture, which is a genuinely pleasant thing at dusk and an honest disappointment if you were expecting forest.
One restriction worth knowing: the stretch from Tanglin Road to Delta Road is not open to inline skaters. Walkers and cyclists are fine along the full length.
Landmarks arrive at a useful rhythm. Valley Point Shopping Centre sits at Delta Road, Great World City is further along, and the connector finishes near Kim Seng Promenade with the Zion Riverside Food Centre at the end. That last detail matters more than it looks: a food centre at the finish is a better motivator than most training apps.
Why 1.7km changes how you use it
A sub-2km path does not support a training session on its own. Running it out and back gives you 3.4km, which is a warm-up or a recovery jog, not a workout.
What it does well is connect. Chained to the Henderson Park Connector it becomes part of a route with real distance, and the Southern Ridges sit within reach from there. If you are planning something longer, our guide to running routes in Singapore covers the stretches worth building a session around.
It also works as a walking commute. Twenty minutes of flat, paved, canal-side path between Tanglin and Zion is a better way to cover that ground than the pavement alternative, and it is the most realistic way most people will actually use it.
When to go
Shade is partial and the path is largely open, so the middle of the day is unpleasant in the way most Singapore outdoor exercise is unpleasant between 11am and 4pm. Early morning and evening are the windows.
The canal-side setting means there is little wind protection and few places to shelter if a storm arrives quickly. On a route this short that is a minor issue: you are never more than about ten minutes from either end.
Who it suits
Walkers and commuters, best. Flat, paved, direct, with food at one end.
Runners using it as a segment, well. As a warm-up into Henderson or as an easy recovery loop it earns its place.
Anyone after a long unbroken run, poorly. You will spend more time crossing between connectors than running. If you want structure and company instead, our roundup of run clubs in Singapore is more useful than any single path, and for a greener walk the Botanic Gardens is the stronger destination.
